Growing climate literacy and fostering a strong sense of community
About Us
This community/group was founded in Cyprus with the aim of growing climate literacy internationally and way beyond the national level. It is our belief that no effective climate action can be taken without understanding the crisis we're up against first. We primarily focus on environmental literature (EcoReaders) and scientific research (Research Circle), as we believe these to be the most effective means of understanding the urgency and implications of the environmental crisis.
Frequently-asked questions
How does the book club function?
The EcoReaders environmental book club functions like most other online book clubs around the world. A book is usually planned in advance, but could be chosen during a meeting, and then read by all members over a period of one month. We then meet, on the first Tuesday of every month on the platform Zoom, to discuss the book, exchanging ideas and commenting on its themes. The length of the discussions varies, depending on how much everyone has to say. To receive the Zoom invitation link every month, join the book club here.
What if I cannot attend a discussion?
We understand that not everything goes to plan, or sometimes there just isn't enough time to squeeze something into one's day. Do not worry if you must skip a discussion or two, we'll keep you up to date on everything!
Are there ever any guest speakers during discussions?
Our goal is to eventually grow this community to a size large enough to attract authors and researchers to join in on the discussions and to be able to host Q&A sessions with them. We also aim to bring more attentions to less well-known and new authors by including books that might not be considered 'environmental classics'.
Can I lead a discussion?
Eco Readers is proud to have a diverse and large group of members, including good public speakers and people with plenty of bright ideas and talent. You are more than welcome to request to lead a discussion on a specific book or research paper! If you'd like to lead a discussion in the research circle, fill in the form here. If you'd like to lead a discussion in the book club, please contact us directly via the contact form below :)
